There is no 616. All gone now.
See, it’s amazing to me that they don’t seem to realize how upsetting this is to a substantial number of people. Shock value sells books, I understand that; “this is the event that will change everything foreverz” is hardly anything new, but to take a massively complex confluence of narratives and heart and blood and sweat and laughs and tears all of those decades in the making and treat it like a brown banana peel meant to be tossed away and forgotten is just so fucked. It’s callous and shortsighted, and I can’t believe no-one in those offices was able to make a strong case that this is an atrocious idea.
When DC did that four years ago they lost fans; they got a temporary sales bump, yes, but they lost a very substantial, heart-broken chunk of their long-term fanbase, many of whom still have not come back. For Marvel to do this now, after seeing the failure of the New 52, is beyond mind-boggling. I have loved and cherished that special quality that is the Marvel Comics Universe (the 616) since I was a wee lad, and it’s being remorselessly and unapologetically thrown in the bin. For what. For a short spike in sales?
You’re breaking my fucking heart, and what’s worse you don’t seem to care.
